Telemere Length Testing

TELEMERE LENGTH TESTING

(Telomeres act as a biomarker of aging, sort of a cellular clock.)

WHAT ARE TELOMERES?

  • Telomeres are caps of DNA found at the ends of our chromosomes. In this way, they are prime indicators of aging. They have been compared to the plastic tips found at the ends of shoelaces. These DNA caps are responsible for what has been termed the Hay ick Limit; the top number of divisions a human cell can have before it stops replicating, and dies.

TELOMERE SHORTENING

  • Telomeres become shorter over time with recurring replication as well as from oxidative stress. Shorter telomeres have been linked to cardiovascular disease, some cancers, osteoporosis, dementia, diabetes, weight gains, and other chronic degenerative diseases of aging conditions: Lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin.

WHY THIS INFORMATION SO VALUABLE?

  • Telomere shortening is a dynamic process. Knowing ones length of telomere and comparing it to ranges will give suf cient information to slow down the shortening and potentially extend ones lifespan! A few rules need to be adhered to telomeres respond positively to improved dietary and lifestyle choices, supplementation/ medication, as well as decreased oxidative stress. Simply put life style changes, and annual monitoring to ensure the changes have taken hold. $250
