The Who, What, When, and Why of Plasma Fibroblasting

When you decide it’s time to deal with fine lines and age spots, but you’re not interested in surgery, plasma fibroblasting may be the perfect choice.

Fibroblast treatment reverses the signs of aging using technology that’s unlike any other facial treatment currently available. At Youthful Reflexion Med Spa, we have helped many patients turn back time and regain a vibrant appearance with plasma fibroblasting.

Plasma triggers your skin’s rejuvenation

Plasma is best known as the liquid part of your blood, but there’s another type of plasma. In the world of physics, plasma is a gas that can conduct electricity, and that’s the basis of plasma fibroblasting.

When you undergo plasma fibroblasting, we use a handheld device called a plasma pen. The device sends out a burst of electrically charged gas known as a plasma arc.

A small metal probe at the end of the plasma pen precisely directs the plasma arc, creating a pinpoint-sized wound on your skin. Though the pen never touches your skin, the plasma arc creates a tiny microinjury that activates fibroblasts.

Fibroblasts create the results

Fibroblasts are vital cells found throughout your body, including in your skin. These cells help create the extracellular matrix, which refers to all the structures that support the living cells in your skin.

As part of this matrix, fibroblasts provide structural and biochemical support, triggering the production of proteins, such as collagen and elastin, that keep your skin healthy, strong, and resilient.

Fibroblasts are also essential for wound healing. Any time you cut your skin (or suffer any type of wound), fibroblasts immediately travel to the area to heal the wound and restore your skin.

Every microinjury produced during your treatment triggers fibroblasts to create more collagen and elastin. As a result, that part of your skin becomes tighter and stronger.

During plasma fibroblasting, we treat your cosmetic concerns by making numerous microinjuries in a grid pattern that covers the targeted area. One session usually takes an hour or less — a small investment of time in return for rejuvenated skin.

Results achieved with plasma fibroblasting

We often recommend plasma fibroblasting to our clients who want to treat cosmetic problems such as:

Most people who want to restore a more youthful appearance and diminish age-related skin concerns are good candidates for plasma fibroblasting. However, we carefully examine your skin and recommend the treatment that’s best for the results you want to achieve.

Timing of plasma fibroblasting results

The heat produced by the plasma arc contracts your skin, so you should notice an immediate tightening. Despite this quick effect, you won’t see the full results at first, partly due to normal side effects and also because it takes a little time.

It’s common to have redness and slight swelling after plasma fibroblasting. You will also develop tiny scabs at the site of each microinjury that take about 5-10 days to fall off.

It takes some time for fibroblasts to do their job of rebuilding your skin and producing more collagen and elastin. As a result, it typically takes at least four weeks to see the improvement in your appearance.

To achieve the best results, we may recommend a series of up to three treatments spaced eight weeks apart.
